The Basic Cobra
-
1
Fold the cord in half, then pass the fold through the slot on one half of the plastic buckle.
-
2
Pass both loose ends through the folded section and pull the ends through. This secures the rope to one end of the buckle.
-
3
Insert both loose ends through the slot on the other half of the plastic buckle, and slide the buckle down the ends until it is as far from the other half as your desired length. If you are unsure how long to make your bracelet, slide the second half on, insert the male half of the clip into the female half of the clip, then pull on the loose ends to shrink the resulting loop until it comfortably fits your wrist.
-
4
Fold the loose ends down so they hang on either side of the section of cords connecting the two halves of the buckle. If you used the buckled method to find your proper size, unclip the two ends so the bracelet lays flat and is not ring-shaped.
-
5
Pass the right loose end over the two center cords, then pass the left loose end behind the two center cords. Each cord will have formed a loop between itself and the center cords.
-
6
Pass both loose ends through the opposite loop and pull tight.
-
7
Repeat the knot until you have braided the entire length of the bracelet, using the same loose end to pass in front of the cords, and the same loose end behind the cords, each time. As each pass makes the loose ends switch sides, the loose end passing in front of the center will start on the right for odd stitches and on the left for even stitches. An easy way to keep track is to wrap a small piece of tape around the end that passes in front of the center cords, so you know to always pass the taped end in front and the non-taped end behind.
Upgrading to King Cobra
-
8
Flip the bracelet around then bend the loose ends down so they now hang on either side of the cobra braid.
-
9
Tie another pass of cobra stitches, passing the cords in front of and behind the cobra braid as you did with the center cords. This is called a super cobra braid.
-
10
Repeat until you have super cobra-braided the entire bracelet.
-
11
Flip the bracelet around and fold the ends down to hang on either side of the super cobra braid then tie a third pass of cobra stitches to complete the king cobra braid.
-
12
Cut each loose end so only a small tip emerges from the final knot, then melt the ends and press down with a knife. This melts the cord to the stitches around it and keeps your bracelet from coming undone.
