Horseback Riding Summer Camps for Girls

Summer horseback riding camps are available around the United States and Canada. Some camps offer a girls-only session while others are open to boys and girls. The camps teach equestrian skills related to riding and caring for horses. Riding camps often also divide the sessions into age groups to create a peer-oriented environment.

  1. Rockbrook

    • Rockbrook summer horseback camp offers sessions for girls only. The Brevard, North Carolina, school is set on a 214-acre ranch with extensive riding facilities. The camp is situated in the Appalachian mountains and provides horses, stables, jump courses, pens and trails. The girls are provided with three meals each day, cabins, showers and restroom facilities and sleep in bunk beds while attending the one- and two-week camps. The girls only bunk with other girls who are close to the same age and are chaperoned by female counselors. The girls are instructed in English riding styles that use a flat saddle and demand perfect posture and formal riding clothing such as equestrian helmets and jodhpurs.

    Camp Rim Rock

    • Camp Rim Rock offers various types of summer camps for girls. The Yellow Spring, West Virginia, camp is located in the northeast corner of the state. Camp Rim Rock offers horseback riding lessons for ring riding, trail riding and river crossings. The camp keeps 70 horses, and the girls must learn how to manage the stables and care for the animals. In addition to horseback riding lessons, the girls can participate in sports, arts and crafts, and other camp activities like swimming and kayaking. The horseback riding camps are presented in one- and two-week long sessions.

    Valley View Ranch

    • Located in northwest Georgia, Valley View Ranch offers camps exclusively for girls. The camps teach English and Western riding styles. The English style uses a flat saddle, and the rider sits high for maximum visibility and control. Western riding uses a deep saddle for comfort and stability on long rides. The camp also teaches stunt riding to advanced riders. Valley View provides bunks and meals for the girls during the one- and two-week sessions. All of the girls are supervised by female counselors during the instruction and free time. The campers are also able to play sports, practice crafts and participate in cookouts.

    Shady Grove Equestrian Camp

    • Shady Grove Equestrian Camp is located in Colleyville, Texas. The camp provides girls with a bunkhouse, a swimming pool and complete equestrian facilities. The facilities include stables, pens and an outdoor riding area with an obstacle course. The girls receive three meals each day and are supervised by female counselors. The camp accepts girls between the ages of 9 and 15 and focuses on English riding instruction. Shady Grove offers four separate three-day camps over the summer.
