Equestrian Event Packing List
-
Feed
-
Your horse will need enough feed to cover all meals it will be receiving over the course of the trip. It is also best to pack for the next meal, in case you are running late. For example, if you plan on being back in the early afternoon, pack enough feed for an extra evening meal. Specify on your list the number of each meal your horse will need for every day you will be away. Do the same for hay, and supplements, if applicable.
Tack
-
Specify on your list each piece of tack your horse will need, or possibly need. If you sometimes use a stronger bit when your horse is acting up, give that bit its own space on the list. Give a number for the amount of saddle pads you want to take, and check the weather to see what horse blankets to take along. Pack your equine first aid kit, after checking the items inside to be sure you have everything. Don't forget your tack cleaning kit.
Set-Up
-
You will need water buckets and feed tubs for your horse, and items to hang up the buckets and tubs. The hanging hardware is up to your personal preference. Also put on your list the tools you will need to put up the hardware. If going to a show and you have stall drapes, consider what tools you would need to put up the stall drapes, such as wood stapler and staples. You may also want to bring along extension cords and a shop light.
You and the Trailer
-
Besides the clothes you will need for riding, add food, a human first aid kit and rain gear. You may also want to include a cooler and chairs to your list as well. Your trailer will need bedding for the floor, as well as a trailer jack. Pack a manure fork and shovel for cleaning up the trailer, and for cleaning up around your trailer if your horse is tied to it or for cleaning your horse's away stall.
Grooming
-
Specify which grooming tools you want to take, as well as your bathing supplies. Any additional grooming tools you need specifically for your trip, such as clippers, should go on the list.
