How to Repair an Intratec Cat 45

The Intratec Cat 45 is a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol that holds seven rounds fully loaded. Intratec firearms is no longer in business, as of 2011. The company flourished in the early 1990s with the Tec-9 pistol. As with all weapons, the Intratec Cat 45 requires periodic maintenance from time to time. The Cat 45 pistol experienced specific problems with the firing pin mechanism during its production. You can replace the Intratec Cat 45's firing pin with minimal difficulty.

  • Padded gun vise
  • 1/8-inch pin punch
  • Hammer
  • New firing pin

      Remove the magazine. Pull the charging handle to the rear. Visually inspect the chamber to ensure that no live ammunition is present.

      Depress the take-down pin above the trigger guard. Pull back on the slide until it engages the slide catch. Lift up and push forward to remove the slide from the weapon frame.

      Secure the slide in a padded gun vise. Turn the slotted screw on top of the slide counterclockwise until the firing pin housing comes free. Remove the firing pin housing from under the slide.

      Place a 1/8-inch pin punch on the keeper pin on the side of the firing pin housing, directly under the slotted screw. Drive the pin out with the punch and hammer.

      Withdraw the firing pin plunger, firing pin spring and firing pin. Discard the old firing pin and replace with the new firing pin. Reassemble the weapon by reversing the process.
