How to Become a Prostaff Hunting Member
Things You'll Need
- Hunting resume
- Hunting curriculum vitae
Instructions
-
Create an Outdoor Identity
-
1
Specialize in a hunting discipline. Though your hunting experience should be broad, you will find more success if you become an expert in a particular discipline or hunting skill. Specialize in something you enjoy, like turkey slate calling or recurve crossbow hunting. Learn as much as you can about your discipline and escape your comfort zone by trying new products and techniques.
-
2
Create an online identity. If a hunting company performs an Internet search of your name, the results should immediately show you as a hunting expert. Use social networks like Twitter and Facebook to show your passion for hunting. Further create your online identity by contributing to outdoor Internet forums and writing a hunting blog.
-
3
Write articles on your discipline that demonstrate your hunting expertise. Submit these articles to hunting websites, local newspapers and outdoor magazines. Many hunting prostaffers are required to write articles.
-
4
Participate in local and national hunting contests. The Bone Collector, Michael Waddell, describes on his website that he started his prostaff career by winning a turkey calling contest.
-
5
Conduct informational hunting seminars. Contact local sportsman's clubs and outdoor retailers to provide a venue for your class.
Develop Relationships with Hunting Companies
-
6
Research companies that produce or sell hunting products. Find out whether they have a prostaff program and obtain an application or a list of requirements.
-
7
Contact these companies and ask them directly how you can be a member of their prostaff. Obtain the name of the individual who acts as the prostaff recruiting manager.
-
8
Submit your application and present your hunting resume directly to the recruiting manager. Include a curriculum vitae to highlight your hunting experiences as well as published articles and seminars you instructed. Be sure to follow up with the recruiter after your meeting.
-
9
Handle rejection as a learning experience. Ask the prostaff recruiter what you would need to change or develop for acceptance onto their prostaff.
-
10
Fulfill the duties of a prostaff hunter once accepted by a company. Review the company's policy to see if you can be on more than one prostaff. If you can, continue applying to other companies.
