How to Repair a 1911 Grip Strap
Grip straps attached to the front of a M1911 pistol are used to help maintain a strong grip on the pistol when multiple rounds have been fired. They help eliminate the slick oily feel that accompanies handling the weapon for extended periods and is a less expensive, easily replaceable alternative to having the grip machined with a CNC mill. Installation is quick and easy, and a number of different grip straps are available to match the grip color of your M1911.
Things You'll Need

- Replacement grip strap
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the clip from the M1911 and dechamber any remaining ammunition left in the gun.
-
2
Remove the side grip covers from the frame by removing the screws in the middle of the grips. With the screws removed, the grips will pull easily out of the frame.
-
3
Peel the old grip strap off of the front of the handle, then press the new grip strap onto where the old one was located, wrapping the ends of the grip strap around the opening in the frame where the handles are located.
-
4
Replace the grips onto the frame and replace the screws into their respective holes. When the grips are tightened up against the frame, the operation is completed.
