1
Remove the Ram Mount flush mount rod holder from the packaging making sure that all of the parts including screws are accounted for.
-
2
Select a location for mounting the rod holder that will be convenient for use while on the water. The holder should be easily accessed while sitting in the kayak and still allow you to paddle and position the kayak as needed. Make sure there is sufficient room for mounting the holder and that it will be clear of the bulk head or other obstructions.
-
3
Place the bottom of the flush mount holder on the spot where you would like for it to be installed. Trace around the tube of the holder, or base, making a mark on the kayak with a permanent marker.
-
4
Select a drill bit with a hole saw attachment for cutting a hole in the kayak. Choose a hole saw diameter that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the rod tube. This will require forcing the tube into the hole once it is drilled and result in a more watertight fit.
-
5
Cut a hole in the kayak in the location you previously marked. Use a knife to remove any plastic burs or shavings from around the hole.
-
6
Apply silicon sealant to the underside of the surface mount. Place the rod holder into the hole. As the hole is slightly smaller you will need to force the holder in. Drill holes into the kayak using the mounting holes as a template. Use a slightly smaller drill bit than the size of the screw.
-
7
Pull the Ram Mount rod holder up slightly, apply a liberal amount of silicon sealant and push the mount back down so the mounting and drilled holes are aligned. Insert the screws with a screwdriver and allow 24 hours for the silicon to cure.
