How to Mount a ContourHD on a Kayak

Holding a video camera, such as the ContourHD helmet camera, while paddling requires a helping hand or wearing a helmet. Although you can juggle the paddle and the camera, it makes shooting continuous video impossible, and any video shot hand-held on a kayak looks shaky. Instead of trying to juggle, mount the ContourHD to the kayak using the Contour Roll Bar accessory, which Contour developed with RAM Mounts, and a RAM Mount suction cup.

Things You'll Need

  • Contour Roll Bar
  • RAM mount 3.25-inch suction cup base
  • 2 feet cordage

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the wing nut on the double socket arm -- the piece that connects the roll-bar mount to the camera mount -- counterclockwise until it loosens enough for you to pull out the roll-bar mount.

    • 2

Insert the ball on the RAM Mount suction cup into the double socket arm. Turn the wing nut clockwise until the double socket arm tightens around the new ball.

    • 3

Find a flat, smooth surface on your kayak to mount the suction cup.

    • 4

Press the suction cup down on the kayak's surface. Twist the twist lock until the suction cup locks to the boat.

    • 5

Mount the ContourHD to the camera mount by sliding the rails on the mount into the camera's sockets.

    • 6

Tie an emergency cord between the mount and your kayak in case the suction cup comes undone.

    • 7

Adjust the camera's shooting direction by loosening the wing nut and moving the camera around. Tighten the wing nut when the camera points the right direction.
