How to Mount a Camera to a Trekking Pole

Trekking poles provide hikers with stability, through extra balance points, when walking over uneven or broken terrain. This is particularly handy when hiking and backpacking long distance. Some trekking poles are equipped with mounting fixtures to attach cameras, allowing the trekking pole to double as a monopod. This monopod stabilizes the camera for more accurate, and less shaky photos. Many trekking poles have caps over the mounting screw. Take care not to lose it when attaching the camera.

      Remove the cover or cap on top of the trekking pole handle. This will expose the mounting screw for the camera.

      Extend the pole to the desired length. Turn the barrels -- or otherwise engage the locking mechanism -- to ensure the pole will not collapse with weight on it.

      Align the camera's mount hole -- found under the camera -- with the mounting screw located on the trekking pole. Turn the trekking pole clockwise to tighten the camera onto the pole.

      Plant the trekking pole tip onto the ground and steady the camera for the shot.
