How to Use a Saddle Ring
A saddle ring allows you to attach a sling to a rifle and carry it hands-free. It is a small metal ring attached to the receiver and/or stock area of the rifle. The saddle ring was introduced on military carbine rifles used by cavalrymen in the late 19th century. If the cavalryman fell off his horse during battle, the rifle stayed with him rather than being lost in the fall. Attach a sling to the saddle ring on your rifle to carry it over your shoulder.

Inspect the rifle to locate the saddle ring. Determine if it has a single saddle ring or two saddle rings.

Attach the clip of the sling to the saddle ring. If the rifle has one saddle ring and the sling has two clips, attach both clips to the ring. If the rifle has two saddle rings and the sling has two clips, attach one clip to each saddle ring. If the rifle has two saddle rings and the sling has one clip, attach the clip to the saddle ring on the stock area.
