Instructions

  1. Storing Vertically Indoors

    • 1

Clean the inside of your kayak as much as you can with an eraser-type sponge. Rinse out any debris with water; drain and dry completely.

    • 2

Flip kayak over and prop the edges up so you can clean the bottom. Rinse any loose debris with water and clean entire area thoroughly with an eraser-type sponge. Don't forget to get the edges and creases as well. Rinse again with water and dry thoroughly to protect the finish and formation of the kayak.

    • 3

Position the kayak standing vertically on the stern with the drain plug towards the bottom. A garage or storage space that is big enough to accommodate the size of the kayak is a good location for this. Secure in place with straps that are attached to the wall, making sure to place some carpet, padding, or foam between the straps and the kayak to protect the finish. There are also specialized kayak storage racks available for storing kayaks in this manner.

    Storing Horizontally Indoors

    • 4

Wash and dry your kayak as described in steps 1 and 2 above.

    • 5

Place your kayak upside down and elevated off the ground by two sawhorses or straps and pulleys that are suspended from rafters.

    • 6

Protect your kayak surface with some carpet, padding, or foam between the straps or sawhorses. Make sure straps are securely in place and attached below the kayak scuppers. Placing the straps there will help to avoid unwanted indentations in your kayak.

    Storing Horizontally Outdoors

    • 7

Wash and dry your kayak as described in steps 1 and 2 of Storing Vertically Indoors.

    • 8

Place your kayak upside down and elevated off the ground by two sawhorses. Make sure there is some padding between the kayak and the sawhorses.

    • 9

Cover your kayak with a kayak cover or a tarp. Make sure the covering is secured and will not fall off. These will help to keep unwanted moisture away and also help to prevent sun damage.
