1
Scrub your kayak clean. Remove all the surface dirt and grime before painting. The cleaner you can get it, the better your results will be. Let it dry.
-
2
Print a picture of an alligator to use as a reference. It will be much easier to create the alligator if you have something to guide you.
-
3
Tape a plastic garbage bag over the cockpit so your seat does not get painted.
-
4
Spray the outside of your kayak with paint designed for use on plastic. Brands available include Krylon Fusion for Plastic and Rust-Oleum Paint for Plastic Spray. This type of paint bonds directly to plastic and resin, of which kayaks are commonly made. Find a green hue for an authentic alligator look. Let the paint dry according to the manufacturer's directions.
-
5
Paint the eyes, nose and mouth at the front of the kayak. Use the white paint for the eye whites and teeth. Outline the individual teeth with black to make them more distinct. Use the black paint to paint the eyeballs and nostrils. Use red for the tongue .
-
6
Paint the front and back legs on either side and the tail on the back.
-
7
Add any details you want, such as scales, and let the paint dry.
-
8
Apply a coat of sealer designed for use over plastic. This will help prevent scrapes and dings.
