1
Remove the pin from the bushing on your bicycle using a chain tool. You will need to turn the chain-breaking tool about six times before you can push out the pin.
-
2
Pull out the bushing side of the chain to remove the broken link. You'll probably have to move the chain back and forth to loosen it first.
-
3
Route the chain through the pulley on the bicycle. This is a multi-step process that must be done in the right order. First, put the chain on top of the upper pulley of the bike.
-
4
Pass the chain in front of the upper pulley.
-
5
Take the chain downward toward the bottom pulley on the bicycle, and loop the chain behind it.
-
6
Push the chain forward until it's under the bottom pulley. Keep the chain in this position for now. Ask a friend for help if necessary.
-
7
Put the end of the chain inside the pin and outer wide plates and align it so the plates are matched up. Push in the pin to connect using the chain tool. Wiggle the fixed chain link to ensure it's not too stiff before riding your bike again.
