SRAM X7 Vs. SRAM X0
-
Shifters and Triggers
-
The SRAM X7 family contains one 10-speed shifter and two 9-speed shifters, while the X0 family has two 10-speed shifters and one 9-speed shifter. Shifters change the bike's gear, which makes pedaling harder or easier. All of the X0 shifters are trigger shifters, which feature a trigger to push the gear to the next setting. The X7 family shifters contain one shifter that is operated by a twister, but the other two are trigger shifters. Twister shifters operate when the rider twists and rotates a piece on the handlebar instead of pulling a trigger.
Derailleurs
-
Bicycle derailleurs are part of the bicycle's transmission system that accomplishes the physical changing of gears. Both SRAM X7 and X0 families have four derailleurs. Two of the X7 derailleurs are made for 9-speed bikes and two are made for 10-speed bikes. In the X0 family, three of the derailleurs are made for 10-speed bikes, while one derailleur is made for 9-speed bikes. Two of the X7 derailleurs are front and two are rear, while the X0 family has three rear derailleurs and one front derailleur.
Chains
-
For both the X7 and X0 product series, SRAM makes chains specialized for cross country rides. The X7 chain is called the PowerChain 1071R, while the X10 chain is called the PowerChain 1091R. Each is manufactured for 10-speed bikes. Both have nickel silver outer plates, but the X0 chain has a lighting hole, as well. The X7 inner plate is gray, while the 1091R is nickel silver. The 1071R weighs 257 grams, and the 1091R weighs 255 grams.
X-Glide
-
These SRAM product series both utilize the SRAM X-Glide technology. This addition to the bicycle makes shifting between gears less bumpy than normal gear shifters. X-Glide uses Truvativ's "different-sized chainrings" that rivet to the chain pivot pin, which physically increases shift opportunities, according to SRAM's website. The increase makes the gear shifting process faster because the rider does not have to wait for as much of a rotation for the gear to shift. Examples of products that use X-Glide technology are the 10-Speed front derailleurs.
