Fun Stuff to Do in a Snow Storm

The snow storm creates a myriad of fun outdoor and indoor activities. Bundle up and head outside to play in the fresh snow or turn up the heat and find some form of fun inside of the home. Snowstorms are often associated with work in the form of shoveling and dangerous travel conditions, but the storms also keep you grounded in one place where entertainment and family bonding are possible.

  1. Outdoor Activities

    • Take advantage of the fresh snow by building snow structures and playing in the yard or at a park. Build a snowman with button eyes and a carrot nose. Wait until the snow accumulates over 1 foot before building the snowman. Lay on your back in the snow and move your arms and legs to make snow angels. Take your sled to a hill and slide down or throw on a pair of snowshoes and go exploring. Also consider a friendly snowball fight if the snow is soft and does not contain hard ice.

    Indoor Activities

    • Gather indoors with family and friends for board games and card games. Make a plate of appetizers and put out refreshments for the day. Enjoy the casual and unhurried pace by catching up with your family and friends. Take advantage of the television by watching movies, and tell ghost stories by candlelight if the power goes out.

    Decorating

    • Snowstorms are accompanied by the holiday season. Drag the boxes of festive decorations from the attic or garage and spend your storm time decorating for Thanksgiving, Christmas, the new year or Easter, depending on the exact date of the storm. Play some season-specific music and recruit the entire family to join the decorating event.

    Solo Activities

    • The snow storm is a perfect opportunity to get comfortable in your favorite chair. Grab a book, throw a log on the fire and get cozy under a blanket. The storm halts activity outside and you can catch up on some reading without worrying about work and other deadlines. Also consider a hot bath or time in the hot tub if possible. The combination of cold outside weather and warm water is soothing and fun in a quiet household.
