How to Push With a WaveRunner

The WaveRunner, Yamaha's version of the personal water craft, has a small and light design. This allows the WaveRunner to operate in shallow waters. The light structure allows even the smallest operator to push off a stable structure and get the water craft moving. This pushing methods allows the WaveRunner to clear any obstacles that you can potentially run into or clear a dry dock. Either way, the pushing method requires little strength and no special knowledge. A new WaveRunner operator can perform this move with relative ease.

      Place aboard all appropriate equipment before unloading and pushing the WaveRunner. Once you push off, you're ready to start riding. The equipment you need includes a personal floatation device, such as a life vest (required in most states), wet suit, sunglasses and any personal items you want to take along. Launch the WaveRunner into the water, if docked on a trailer. Back the trailer at least 75 percent of the way into the water at a launching ramp.

      Climb aboard the WaveRunner by stepping onto one of the foot support areas located on both sides of the WaveRunner. Use the foot rests to lift yourself on board with your arms, if start the WaveRunner from water too deep for you to simply step on board.

      Move your other foot to the opposite foot rest so that both feet are in the riding position. Sit down and keep one arm on the handles to keep your stability, and to control the WaveRunner.

      Push off the dock or trailer with your arm closest to the trailer while sitting down and holding onto the handles. Push away from the trailer and toward the direction of open water. You not only want to create distance between you and the trailer, but also want to move the nose of the WaveRunner in the right direction to minimize the amount of maneuvering needed to exit the docking area. Your WaveRunner should slowly spin and move away from the trailer if performed correctly. Start the WaveRunner after you create enough distance from the trailer.
