How to Put a Sling on a Swiss K-31

The Swiss Karabiner 31, also known as the K-31 carbine, was standard issue to frontline Swiss armed forces from 1933 to 1958. It fired 7.5 mm ammunition fed from a 6-round detachable box magazine. The K-31 featured a unique straight-pull bolt assembly that cycled rounds in and out of the chamber without rotation of the bolt handle. Soldiers could operate the bolt without adjusting the position of the rifle and presenting a higher-profile target to the enemy. The K-31 has a 25.6-inch barrel and an overall length of 43.6 inches. It weighs 8.85 pounds unloaded. Over half a million K-31s were manufactured during its production life. The standard K-31 sling from World War Two was made of thick leather and had a metal button and clip.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread the end of the sling through the front swivel, with the loop on the sling facing up.

    • 2

Bring the end of the sling back to the loop and thread it through the loop. Pull a sufficient length of the sling through the loop to reach past the end of the buttstock.

    • 3

Thread the sling through the rear spring clip and snug it slightly so the holes in the sling line up.

    • 4

Attach the rear spring clip to the sling mount recessed in the buttstock.

    • 5

Push the metal button through two holes to fasten the short outer segment of the sling to the longer segment of the sling. Adjust the length of the sling by moving the metal button to adjacent holes.
