How to Use a Three-Point Sling

A three-point sling is a type of rifle sling that has been used by U.S. military and professional shooters for many years. This sling allows the user to be more mobile by allowing him to shoulder a rifle and free up his hands to use other tools or objects. Another purpose for using this type of sling is to help give the shooter more support and stability when taking a shot. Learning how to properly use a three-point sling is important for any serious marksmen and can be mastered with practice.

Instructions

Untighten the sling and give it a small amount of slack where the loop of the sling is located. Detach the buckle on the sling's loop and pull the strap out a little. Fasten the buckle back when your adjustment is complete.

Hold your firearm in your favorite shooting position. Take your free arm, the arm not holding the weapon, and stick it through the loop in the sling. Slide your forearm through the loop a second time and then place your hand on the rifle's hand guard. The loop will be up around your forearm and shoulder area.

Make the sling tight around your shoulder and forearm area by undoing the buckle and pulling on the strap, similar to tightening a backpack. Fasten the buckle after you have made your adjustment.
