How to Use the M1907 Sling

The M1907 military sling makes it easier to carry and position rifles. It consists of two leather straps punched with holes, that have hooks, called frogs, at one end of each strap. The shorter of the two straps, or loops, has a mounting ring affixed to the end, and the sling also includes two small rings of leather called keepers. Once you assemble the sling, you thread the straps through the swivels of your rifle before tightening the sling with the keepers. After you have attached the sling, you can wear it around your arm to steady your rifle.

Instructions

    • 1

Place both keepers on the longer strap so that they are close to each other and the first hook is about four inches from the hook at the end of the strap.

    • 2

Thread the free end of the long strap through the ring at the end of the short strap and make sure both frogs are pointing in the same direction.

    • 3

Thread the free end of the long strap through the front swivel of your rifle from the front to the back and then thread it through the upper keeper of the sling.

    • 4

Hook the front frog into a pair of holes that are comfortable for your sitting rapid position; this differs from person to person and from rifle to rifle.

    • 5

Hook the rear frog through the rear rifle swivel to a position two holes behind the front frog.

    • 6

Hold the inside strap of your sling near the trigger housing tightly in your left hand. Grasp the sling between the frogs with your right hand, and pull toward the rear of the rifle with your left hand and push toward the front of your rifle with your right hand to tighten it.

    • 7

Slide the lower keeper toward the front of the rifle so that it passes the end of the long strap; your sling is now positioned for carrying.

    • 8

Unhook the rear frog and pull the rear strap out of its swivel. Hook the frog into any convenient holes in the rear strap so that it does not catch.

    • 9

Pull on the front loop so that it is behind the keepers. Slide both keepers so that they are adjacent to the front frog.

    • 10

Rotate the sling a half-turn to the left and place your left arm into the front loop. Tighten the loop by pulling the front portion through the keepers.

    • 11

Place your left hand inside the sling and under your rifle. Shoot your rifle as you normally would.

    • 12

Pull on the upper part of the loop above the keepers to remove the sling from your arm.

    • 13

Leave the sling attached to the rifle for future use by reconnecting the frogs and tightening the sling as per steps 4, 5 and 6 so that it is in the same position as it was in step 7.
