How to Mount Sling Swivels

Rifle slings let you carry the firearm over your shoulder during hunts and hikes. They're also useful tools for accuracy on shots fired. To equip your rifle with a sling, the rifle must have sling swivels, in which slings are threaded and attached to the firearm. If your rifle doesn't have sling swivels, installing them is a quick procedure that in most cases is tool-free.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the rifle of ammunition and place the safety on. Turn the rifle upside down and set out your set of sling swivels. There are two pieces for the sling swivels -- the front and back.

    • 2

Look around the butt end of the stock for any pre-drilled swivel mounts. Almost all rifles have the sling swivel holes. Insert the single sling swivel screw for the rear mount into the screw hole and turn it in until it's flush with the rifle stock. Do not over-tighten. Hand tighten so it's flush.

    • 3

Slide the front sling swivel over the barrel, or along any rail under the barrel depending on your compatible sling swivels for your rifle.

    • 4

Push the sling swivel up the stock on the barrel. Get it as close to the stock as possible and tighten the screws or dials to secure it to the rifle barrel. Make sure the sling swivel is on the underside of the rifle barrel.

    • 5

Thread your sling through the two mounts. You're ready to use your rifle with a sling.
