1
Instruct the archer to wear every bit of shooting attire that she would normally wear while hunting or target shooting. This includes hunting jackets, gloves and hats. This will help determine how the bow will perform for her under actual conditions.

2
Tell the archer to draw the bow string back into the anchor position. She should be able to hold anchor for at least five seconds. If anchor cannot be held, the bow is too heavy in draw weight. A bow that is too heavy will never be shot properly.
-
3
Direct the archer to draw and slowly let the string down with her fingers. Ask her if she is experiencing any finger pinching in the drawing hand. If her fingers are being pinched, it indicates that the bow is too short for her draw length. A bow with a longer tip-to-tip length will solve this problem. If a longer bow is not an option, a mechanical release can be used to keep the fingers out of the string.

4
Watch from the side as she draws the recurve. Look for any misalignment in her shoulders while drawing. If the bow must be pointed down or up to draw, its draw weight is too heavy. The draw should be a smooth continuous movement with the shoulders and elbows becoming aligned at full draw.
