How to Lace Roller Skates

Properly lacing your skates can prevent foot pain, discomfort and injury, making it a vital step to enjoying your time with your inline, quad or ice skates. Lacing techniques for skates are the same as for shoes and boots, and the same kinds of modifications can be used for people with special foot needs.

Instructions

  1. Criss-Cross Lacing

    • 1

Thread the lace through the bottom-most eyelets of the skate. Pull each end of the lace through the eyelets from bottom to top.

    • 2

Feed the lace through the next pair of eyelets. Cross the ends of the laces over each other and pull them through the eyelets from bottom to top.

    • 3

Repeat step two. Continue to cross the ends of the lace over each other and thread them through the eyelets until the skate is completely laced.

    Zipper Lacing

    • 4

Thread the lace through the bottom-most eyelets of the skate. Pull each end of the lace through the eyelets from bottom to top.

    • 5

Wrap the ends under the lace. Loop the ends of the laces under the previously laced section.

    • 6

Feed the lace through the next pair of eyelets. Cross the ends of the laces over each other and pull them through the eyelets from bottom to top.

    • 7

Repeat steps two and three until the skate is fully laced. This lacing technique will help your skate keep a snug fit.

    Knotted Lacing

    • 8

Thread the lace through the bottom-most eyelets of the skate. Pull each end of the lace through the eyelets from bottom to top.

    • 9

Tie a knot. Cross the ends of the laces over each other once and loop one end of the lace under and over the other.

    • 10

Feed the lace through the next pair of eyelets. Pull the ends of the laces -- from bottom to top -- through the eyelets toward which they are leading.

    • 11

Repeat steps two and three until the skate is fully laced. This lacing technique will keep the skate tight and is more easy to adjust than zipper lacing.
