T-Stop
-
1
Practice by skating at a reasonable pace.
-
2
Keep your knees bent with both feet facing forward. Transfer your weight to your dominant foot.
-
3
Place your other foot perpendicular to your dominant one. Make sure that it is behind your dominant foot so that your skates do not collide. This creates a T or L shape.
-
4
Apply pressure with your back foot. This creates friction which causes you to slow to a stop.
Power Slide
-
5
This stop is more difficult. Practice this one at medium speed. Increase your speed as you get better at executing this stop.
-
6
Lean into the inside as you make a sharp turn.
-
7
Stretch your outside leg out, allowing the skate to slide. Keep your wheels on the ground.
-
8
Your inside skate should rotate, becoming perpendicular to your outside skate. This will allow you to keep your balance and slide to a stop.
-
9
The more pressure applied on the outside skate, the faster you will come to a stop.
