Power-Slide Technique
-
1
Skate around to gain momentum as you normally would while skating. Make sure you are comfortable with the power and speed you are traveling at.
-
2
Choose which leg you want to slide/stop with. Most people stop with their dominant leg while their non-dominant leg bears most of the body's weight. Find out which leg you are confident with. Once you learn to stop with one leg, try practicing with the other.
-
3
Swing your stopping leg around, extending it fully, while leaning your weight onto your non-stopping leg. Your non-stopping leg should make an almost 90-degree angle, and your stopping leg should nearly form a triangle to the ground.
-
4
Point your toes on your non-stopping leg, or back leg, in the same direction as you are stopping.
-
5
Commit to the stop and place the majority of your weight to the non-stopping leg, using your weight to stop the momentum of the wheels.
-
6
Use your arms to regain your balance and steady your body by leveling them outward like wings.
