How to Get on Handrails - Rollerblading Tips

When learning new tricks on in-line skates, be patient and do not try anything too challenging or dangerous at the beginning, before you feel comfortable. Everyone learns sports at their own pace and skill level, and in-line skating is no exception. Grinding on handrails requires a lot of balance, athleticism, and most importantly, practice. Do not fear falling when learning this trick, as you will be more likely to fall if you are worrying about it. Always wear a helmet and safety pads when skating to avoid serious injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Approach the handrail, picking up a decent amount of speed as you do. The faster you are going when you get to the rail, the easier it will be to balance, according to Grindside.com.

    • 2

Stare at the point on the rail where you want to land as you approach it, which will help you focus. Jump towards this point, and turn around 90 degrees in the air as you do so. Be sure to keep your knees bent with your feet shoulder width apart as you make contact with the rail.

    • 3

Land on the rail in between the two middle wheels of your Rollerblades, which is the ideal spot for executing a grind as it gives you the best ability to balance. Slide down the rail with your arms out and your weight centered.

Jump off the rail when you arrive at its end point and meet the ground with your knees bent and arms out to keep from falling.
