How to Hockey Stop on In-Line Skates

Being able to reverse your direction quickly is an essential skill in roller hockey. Use the in-line adaption of the hockey stop to stop yourself quickly at high speed.

      Decide to do a hockey stop. You should know your surface and stopping limits before you commit to this manuever.

      Lean hard into a power turn.

      Extend your outside skate, laying the skate almost on its side, but keeping the wheels touching the ground.

      Commit your weight almost entirely to your outside skate.

    • 5

      Slide to a halt on the edges of your wheels, allowing your weight to tranfer back to your inside skate as you stop.

      Push off the side of your inside skate to immediately begin skating the other direction.
