Difference Between a 2010 and 2009 Callaway FT9 Driver

All golfers have done it. It doesn't matter your experience at golf. You could be weekend warrior, a scratch player or even a longtime member of the PGA Tour, but we've all have hit an errant tee shot. And often, our next shot is from the rough near the fairway. The key to taking strokes off your score is finding the right driver to help straighten the ball off the tee. A driver must suit your swing to be effective. The Callaway FT9 driver has drawn high praise from many golfers, but there are differences between the 2009 and 2010 models.
  1. The Shaft

    • The shaft of the 2009 Callaway FT9 driver is composed of a carbon fiber composite that offers a higher torque resistance on the follow-through of your tee shot. The 2010 model has a sleeker shaft made of compressed carbon fiber that allows golfers to shift their weight farther back on their planted leg to hit a longer, straighter and more pinpoint tee shot than ever before.

    Driver Head

    • The face of the 2009 driver is designed to increase the ball speed that will generate farther distance for an easy second shot. Callaway received complaints about a small hairline crack occurring along the seam of the driver head. Some owners noticed an obvious decrease in distance off their tee shots after minimal usage of the club. The 2010 Callaway FT9 driver repositions the weight into the club head where it's needed the most. The club provides more stability on impact and improved efficiency. Callaway removed material and weight from the face to create a bigger sweet spot for inexperienced golfers.

    Swing

    • The 2010 club's swing is a bit smoother than that of the '09 model. You'll hear a loud, solid smacking noise when the ball is perfectly hit off the tee, while other drivers on the market provide a "ping" noise. The '09 model offered little noise, except for a loud thud when you hit a tee shot off-center. Golfers complained that it was difficult to judge distance off their tee shots without any noise from the club head.

    Overall Makeup of the Driver

    • The 2010 model has the addition of an Optifit weighing system that offers you a choice between two positions to best match your swing style. You can customize your driver by setting the center of gravity to either a draw or neutral position. This should help decrease any slice or fade from your tee shot and increase distance and accuracy off the tee.
