How to Polish a 6.8 SPC Chamber
The 6.8 mm SPC is a intermediate-power rifle cartridge. There are a wide variety of rifles chambered in it, including semiautomatic and bolt-action rifles. Polishing the chamber of any rifle -- regardless of caliber -- may be desirable if the rifle is having trouble ejecting spent casings, or if the spent casings are being severely scratched or gouged upon ejection. Chamber-polishing is relatively simple and does not require any gun-smithing knowledge given the proper steps are followed.
Things You'll Need
- Cleaning rod
- Chamber cleaning brush
- Lubricant
- Drill
- Drill bit
- Empty 6.8 SPC casing
- Fine grit sandpaper
Instructions
-
-
1
Point the gun in a safe direction and make sure it is unloaded.
-
2
Fully disassemble the rifle so that the chamber is exposed.
-
3
Drill a hole in the spent primer of the empty casing. The hole should be large enough to insert the threaded end of the cleaning brush.
-
4
Insert the threaded end of the cleaning brush into the casing and attach the cleaning rod from the other side. The casing should secure and should not spin freely.
-
5
Wrap the sandpaper around the casing and tape it in place.
-
6
Work the casing in and out of the chamber and rotate it as necessary to smooth out any burrs in the chamber.
-
7
Wipe the chamber clean of any metal filings and lubricate.
