How to Make Visible Gun Targets

A variety of targets are used on a firing range when you're shooting rifles, handguns and shotguns. A target is used to help with the adjustment of rifle sights and scopes as well as to learn how to properly aim a weapon downrange. A bright contrasting color that marks the center of the target helps a shooter to more quickly and easily acquire the target in the sights or through the scope.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a color of fluorescent paint to mark the center point of targets. Select a paint color that will stand out in contrast to the color of the target. Choose, for example, a bright red or orange to use on the center of a black paper target.

    • 2

Open a bottle of fluorescent paint and select a fine-tip hobby brush. Paint the center or bull's-eye of a paper target to help with sight acquisition.

    • 3

Paint a round dot on the upper portion of an old bowling pin to be used as a target. Paint a second larger circle on the main body of the bowling pin to provide two separate sighting points.

    • 4

Fill in the center of a clay pigeon target with fluorescent paint. Paint the center of the target with a color that contrasts the paint on the clay target. Fill in the center of the target completely with the paint.

    • 5

Paint a dot or circle on fruit such as watermelon, honeydew, apples, grapefruit and oranges to use as a target. Select paint colors that stand out against the natural colors of the fruit.
