How to Repair the Spyderco Lock-back Knife

The Spyderco company manufactures a wide variety of knives, including fixed and many folding models. Designed for recreational as well as professional use, the Spyderco models include the Tenacious, Military, Salt and Endura. It is often suggested by the manufacturer that knives be returned for repair. However, the company does manufacture a repair kit for models such as the Endura 4 lock-back knife. Disassemble the Spyderco Endura lock-back knife to replace worn or damaged parts and resolve many operating issue.

      Open the knife completely to lock the blade in place. Use a Torx screwdriver to loosen and remove the pivot adjustment screw. Loosen and remove the Torx screws that connect the knife scales and liners together through the pillars along the spine of the knife.

      Remove the scales, or handles, from the metal liners. Carefully separate the metal liners, taking note of how the tension bar is assembled in the knife. Remove the back spacer and tension bar.

      Pull the washer from the D-bolt. Pull the D-bolt from the metal liner to access the washer on the opposite side.

      Place a new washer on the replacement D-bolt. Place the blade back on the new D-bolt. Place a second new washer on the opposite side of the knife blade. Apply a drop of knife oil to both washers.

      Extend the knife blade open and place the tension bar into the new replacement liner. Assemble the new metal liners with a new back spacer in place.

      Place the scales, which were removed earlier, on the liners. Line up the mounting holes in the scales with the holes in the liners. Use new Torx screws to secure the handles together. Use a new pivot screw in the replacement D-bolt to secure the blade. Adjust the pivot screw so the blade opens easily.
