1
Clean the seat, located directly on top of the saddle, using a scrub brush with firm bristles. This will help clean the seat of any dust and dirt while invigorating the leather grain.
-
2
Sand any rough or frayed edges around the saddle's seat using fine-grit sandpaper. You may also lightly buff the seating surface if the leather is beginning to peel or fray.
-
3
Saturate a soft sponge with warm water and wet the seat of your saddle. Allow the water to soak in for about five minutes, then dip the sponge into the container of saddle soap or leather cleaner. Work the soap to a rich lather on the seat and any other part of the saddle you wish to clean.
-
4
Wipe off all traces of the soap with a soft towel.
-
5
Apply a generous amount of leather conditioner to a polishing cloth. Rub the conditioner onto the seat using a firm touch and a circular motion. Use more conditioner as needed.
-
6
Allow the conditioner to absorb overnight and wipe off any excess in the morning. Re-apply a light coat of conditioner monthly to keep your saddle supple and in good repair.
-
7
Place a saddle pad over the top of the seat to maintain your repair work.
