Place the saddle on your saddle rack, making sure that the rack is sturdy and the saddle is balanced.

Locate the saddle nail or side screw, which is below the pommel on the skirt of your saddle. This nail is usually adorned with the brand name or make of the manufacturer. Find the center of the saddle nail.

Find the center of the cantle, the high ridge at the back of the seat.

Measure the distance between the center of the nail and center of the cantle, using your measuring tape. The number of inches will determines the size of the seat.
