How to Tell the Seat Size of a Delgrange Saddle

Bruno Delgrange is one of the brands of French-made jumping saddles very popular with A-circuit hunter/jumper riders and trainers. This brand also encompasses the PJ line of hunter/jumper saddles, and Bruno Delgrange offers dressage saddles, as well. These saddles are generally offered by more prestigious saddle retailers and can be good for a person who rides more than one horse, due to the way the saddle trees are designed.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the saddle on your saddle rack. If you don't have a saddle rack, a friend can hold the saddle for you while you measure.

    • 2

Find the nailhead on the side of the front of the saddle on the short flap called the skirt. There should be a nailhead on either side, and it doesn't matter which one you use.

    • 3

Start the tape measure at the nailhead and pull it back to the middle of the back of the saddle. This should give you the measurement of the seat in inches. Seat sizes are usually given by the manufacturer in full or half inches, so if you fall between, the seat size is probably the next half or full size down.

    • 4

Take away half an inch to make the saddle size comparable to other saddle brands. Delgrange saddles tend to feel half a seat size smaller than most saddles when you sit in them. If the size you measure is the one you are used to riding in, you probably will need a slightly bigger Delgrange saddle to be comfortable.
