How to Repair SOG Knives

SOG knives are multi-tool devices with a variety of options. SOG knives are available with slidable and adjusting wrenches, wire cutters, knife blades, saws, screwdrivers and other implements. SOG blades are designed to be sharpened using a traditional knife-sharpening stone. Tighten and lubricate the fittings and settings on the tool to bring it back to its original luster and function.

Things You'll Need

  • Sharpening stone and knife oil
  • Chamois cloth

Instructions

    • 1

Open the SOG and pull out the blade to be sharpened. Close the multi-tool housing; lock it by pressing the circle-lock until it clicks into position.

    • 2

Squirt several drops of the sharpening oil onto the sharpening stone. Draw the blade across the stone at a 45-degree angle to the stone's surface. Drag the blade in one direction only. Turn the blade over, and drag it over the stone in the same direction. Wipe the oil from the sharpened blade, and place the blade back into the multi-tool housing.

    • 3

Spray a small quantity of the dry-graphite lubricant onto the sliding mechanism for the housing and pliers. Move the pliers up and down several times to work the lubricant into the housing.

    • 4

Insert the Allen wrench into the hex screws that hold the blades and tools in the housing. Rotate in clockwise, half-turn increments to tighten the tools. Open the tools to check that they are not too tight.

    • 5

Close the tool and apply a light coat of oil to the blade edges. This prevents rusting during storage.
