How to Change the Angle of a Ritchey Adjustable Stem

Ritchey bicycle stems have two preset angles. The stem is reversible and can be adjusted flat for aggressive riding or angled upward for relaxed riding. For racing or fast riding, chose the flat position. If you like cruising around town with your head up, choose the upright position. You can change the angle in minutes and find which you like best. All you need to reverse the angle is two hex wrenches.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove four hex setscrews located on the front of the handlebars with a 4mm hex wrench. They are right in the center of the handlebars directly above your front tire. Remove them and a small plate that they pass through.

    • 2

Pull the handlebars out of the semi-circular holder and let them droop down and rest on the front tire. Don't take anything else off the handlebars.

    • 3

Remove one 5mm hex setscrew that is facing straight up from the handlebar stem. If you are sitting on the bike and look straight down, you will be looking directly at it. Unscrew and remove it, the cap that it passed through and all of the bushings below it. Set them aside in the order that they came off.

Grab the stem and pull it straight up, off the shaft. Turn it upside down and put it back on just as it came off. The angle will now be reversed from the original position. Put the bushings back on, the cap and the hex setscrew and tighten it with the hex wrench.

Put the handlebars back in the semi-circle holder. Put the small plate back on and secure it by putting the four setscrews back through the plate. Tighten the setscrews securely. You are ready to ride.
