How to Install a Sun Recumbent Bicycle Basket

When you purchase a Sun recumbent bicycle basket, you'll get an installation sheet that includes several photographs showing you how to install the basket. Unfortunately, the instruction sheet does not include anything beyond the photographs, making it difficult to install if doing this type of thing is not intuitive for you. The installation involves a number of screws, but when you're done, you'll have a handy basket to carry groceries and supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang the two upper brackets -- with a round top that fits over the bar -- over the top bar behind the bicycle seat. Tighten the screw on each bracket to secure the brackets to the top bar, with the screws facing away from the cycle.

    • 2

Hang the basket from the two screws on the bottom of the brackets you just installed by placing the flat metal panel over top of the bracket and sliding in two screws. Allow the flat panel to slide down until the panel is hanging from the two screws at the bottom of the brackets. Tighten the screws.

    • 3

Test the large U-shaped bracket under the basket, so that the two ends of the bracket rest against the vertical bars on the back of the seat. When you've found the location that allows the bracket to rest against the vertical bars, and also touch the bottom of the basket, place one of the flat rectangular braces inside the basket, and another under the bracket, and then tighten the two braces together with two screws. Repeat this action with two more flat rectangular braces, to hold the bracket to the basket.

    • 4

Snap an O-shaped bracket over one of the vertical bars and tighten the screw that holds the bracket onto the vertical bar, at the location where the underside bracket will rest against the bars. Repeat for the other side.

    • 5

Pull the underside bracket into place on the O-shaped bracket and thread a nut through. Hold the bracket into place on the O-shaped bracket with a nut on the opposite side. Repeat for the other side.

    • 6

Test the strength of the basket before you put anything in it by shaking it around a bit. There should be some movement, but if one side is looser than another, re-tighten all screws.
