Shifters
-
Shimano manufactures both the ST-5700-L-S and ST-5703-S shifters in their 105 line. The shifters are designed for cyclists who usually ride with their hands on the handlebars. The shifters connect to the brakes and gears with internal cable routing. The positioning of the shifters can be adjusted anywhere from 5mm to 10mm from the handlebars with the use of Shimano shims.
Brakes
-
The Shimano 105 component group uses the BR-5700-S brakes. The brakes include an adjustable "toe-in" that allows cyclists to adjust the alignment of the brake pads to the wheel. The BR-5700-S brakes are compatible with the Ultegra 6700 control brake levers.
Cassette Sprockets
-
Shimano includes the 10-speed CS-5700 cassette sprockets in its 105 component group. The CS-5700s have available "cassette" options from which to choose. The cassette options are simply the range of teeth on each cog. Options include: 11-25, 11-28, 12-25 and 12-27 teeth.
Front Derailleurs
-
Front derailleur models included with the Shimano 105 group include the FD-5700 and the 5703-B-S. The FD-5700 can hold a maximum of 56-50 top gear teeth. The FD-5703 can hold only 50 teeth. The FD-5700 is compatible with cassette sprockets that have a maximum of 16 teeth. The 5730 is compatible with cassette sprockets that have 20 teeth. The 5700 derailleur has chain-stay angles of 61 to 66 degrees. The chain-stay angles of the 5703 are 63-66. The 570 is brazed onto bike frames while the 5703 is mounted to bike frames with a clamp band.
Rear Derailleurs
-
The RD 5700-SS-S and the 5700 RD-GS-S are the rear derailleur models that are included in the Shimano 105 component group. Both derailleur models are compatible with a maximum sprocket size of 28 teeth and a minimum size of 11 teeth. The maximum difference between sprockets that can be used on the 5700-SS-S is 16 teeth.
Chain
-
The 105 group uses the CN-5701 chain. The 5701 is a "Super Narrow HG" chain type for 10-speed bikes.
Pedals
-
The PD-5700-S pedals included in the 105 group are made of stainless steel and have an extra-wide platform to increase pedal efficiency. The 5700-S pedals are compatible with SPD cleats.
