How to Upgrade Shimano Sora

When you are ready to make the jump in performance for your road bike, consider replacing Shimano Sora components. Sora is Shimano's entry-level component group for road bicycles. While it performs as it should, it's heavy and wears out quickly. There is a hierarchy to Shimano's offerings. Understand this when you are ready to make the jump up from Sora.

Instructions

Purchase a set of Shimano Tiagra components as an upgrade to the Shimano Sora line. Tiagra is one step above Sora in its hierarchy. Tiagra is a few grams lighter than Sora components.

Select the Shimano 105 group of components if your budget allows. The 105 line is a high-performance and more-professional line of components. You will need to upgrade the shifters, cassette, pedals, bottom bracket, headset and brakes with the 105 line.

Purchase Ultegra components from Shimano if you are ready to go from the entry Shimano Sora to a near-professional level of road bicycle components. Ultegra uses integrated brake and shifter housings, two or three ring cogs and lightweight cassettes.

Use Shimano Dura-Ace if you wish to upgrade to the top-of-the-line upgrade offered by Shimano. Dura-Ace is the component group frequently seen on top professional cyclists' bikes. You see Dura-Ace components on bicycles in the Tour de France.
