1
Visit your location sports equipment facility, such as an REI Outdoors retailer. Ask the associate if he carries bike trainers--the associate will know what you mean. You can find a bike trainer at bicycle specialty shops. If you do not have either at your location, you can type "bike trainers" into your search engine and several online shops will pop up.

2
Buy a bike trainer that suits your needs. Many of these trainers have various aspects like adjustable legs for storage and a bolt or magnetic clamps to keep your bike in place. Interchangeable resistance allows for an effective workout. There are accessories that enhance the bike trainer like the CycleOps Climbing Riser Block, which adds height to the front tire to simulate climbing hills.
-
3
Place your bike trainer in an open space within your home. Place the back tire into the 'U" shape of the bike trainer and clamp it onto the tire. The bolt or magnetic clamps will hold the bike in place, thus allowing you to pedal keeping the bike stationary. Use the climbing blocks for a challenging workout.
-
4
A training mat can be placed underneath the bike trainer to prevent any damage to the floor. It may also add further stabilization by not allowing the bike trainer to skid against the floor.
-
5
Purchasing a bike trainer will allow you to ride your road bike indoors yet have the ability to detach the bike and ride outside. Stationary bikes only allow you to ride indoors.
