How to Use a Rescue 8

The Rescue 8 is a piece of rock-climbing gear used for lifting and lowering heavy loads, and is manufactured by the Blue Water Company. It is a metal object with a shape similar to the number 8. Like all climbing gear, the Rescue 8 has to be extremely durable and reliable. That is why the device is made from steel, with an anodized finish to prevent rope-slippage and corrosion. The Rescue 8 is basically a type of carabiner, at least 6 by 6 inches in size, that is normally used for rescue missions, since it is too heavy and bulky for ordinary, recreational climbing.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a rope to use with the Rescue 8. Note that Rescue 8 is a device designed for heavy-duty climbing and rescue missions. That means you should use ½ inch or thicker ropes with Rescue 8, in order to fully utilize the benefits of its design and material.

    • 2

Pull the rope through the bigger hole of the Rescue 8. Note that the Rescue 8 has a special type of durable steel finish, which allows the rope to adhere to the surface of the metal without damaging it.

    • 3

Pull the rope through the smaller loop, choosing one of the two loops or pulling the rope through each one. Whether you will use one or two smaller holes depends on the weight you want to lift, conditions and the nature of the rescue mission.

    • 4

Pass the rope through a pulley, closing the pulley once the rope is pulled through.

    • 5

Connect the pulley to an anchor, using the Rescue 8 as the middle element.

    • 6

Lift or lower the load, or use the Rescue 8 in another way once all the elements are set and ready. Note that Rescue 8 will redistribute the weight, making the whole operation easier.
