How to Tie a Water Knot
A water knot is the all-purpose webbing knot. Knots for normal rope are ineffective and possibly dangerous in webbing, so this knot is essential for your repertoire. When you tie a water knot, you tie two pieces of webbing together. The two pieces of webbing share significant surface area with this knot, making it a very strong knot. Use this type of knot to secure two pieces together with little worry that the webbing pieces will separate.

1
Tie a normal overhand (granny) knot, leaving at least a 6-inch tail. Keep the webbing flat -- do not allow it to twist.
-
2
Insert the other end of the webbing where the tail of the knotted webbing comes out.
-
3
Follow the tied webbing around the knot with the second piece of webbing.
-
4
Go back through the knot to the other side so you have tails of webbing sticking out both sides of the knot.
