How to Remove Roller Bearings

Roller bearings are the part of an inline skate that allow the wheels to spin while the skate housing doesn't move. Because they keep the skates in motion the bearings need to be kept securely in place. If the bearings rust or become grimy you may find it challenging to replace them on your own. With the correct tool, however, you can easily remove the bearings.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the wheel from the line of the skate using the tip of the rotor tool. Use the rotor like a screwdriver to loosen the screw until the wheel can be pulled away from the skate.

    • 2

Insert the tip of the rotor tool into the middle of the wheel to pry off the cap of the wheel. Keep the rotor tool wedged under the inside edge of the cap until the cap pops off.

    • 3

Turn the wheel over to let the balls drop out from inside the wheel.

    • 4

Nudge the tool through the cap on the other side of the wheel until it gets pushed out. Insert the tool from the inside of the cap and push it outward.

    • 5

Repeat for each wheel that bearings need to be removed.
