Reinell Sailboat Specifications

Reinell is primarily a powerboat company but it manufactured sailboats in the 1970s. The company made a 22- and 26-foot model. The sailboats are not out of style and many of the originals can be found in docks around the country. The Reinell sailboats have a small cult-like following and some of the used boats have been fully restored and updated with modern appliances and electronics. The boats were not built for speed but they have all the conveniences required for multiple day travel.
  1. Construction

    • The 22- and 26-foot models are constructed from fiberglass. The fiberglass has a gel coat and the interior hull is wood framed. The gel coat must be refinished after abuse in order to preserve and protect the fiberglass. The interior is all wood framed and the deck is made of treated wood. The boat was built on a mold and pressure treated with a waterproof fiberglass coating. Any damage to the material can be repaired with a thick fiberglass patch.

    Layout

    • The deck has access to the sails and the motor controls. A retractable shade awning covers the deck for inclement weather. The interior has a sink, range, stove and refrigerator. It also has cabinets, closets and storage under the dinette seats. There is also a couch and bed beneath the deck.

    Motor and Sails

    • The boat has an outboard motor mount. The size of the motor can be adjusted but a 7.5-horsepower engine is standard. In addition to the outboard, the boat has a full-size motor. The 302 Ford is standard in all of the models. There are also two sails on the boat with the main measuring at 85 square feet. The combination of the two motors and the sails is enough for long excursions.
