How to Clean Snorkels

Salt water, sand and dirt can accumulate inside a snorkel after just one use. This can create a foul odor inside the snorkel. Mold could appear inside the snorkel if the snorkel is not cleaned after its use. Breathing through a dirty snorkel also can be more difficult compared with using a clean snorkel. To avoid these problems, thoroughly clean both the inside and outside of the snorkel before putting it away.

  • Sink
  • Liquid dish soap

      Blow through the snorkel forcefully to expel any remaining water and debris from the snorkel.

      Fill the sink with warm water. Place roughly two tablespoons of dish soap (eyeballing is OK) into the water.

      Soak the snorkel in the soapy water for approximately one hour.

      Scrub both the inside and outside of the snorkel gently with a long, soft-bristled brush. Keep the snorkel under the soapy water while scrubbing.

      Rinse the snorkel thoroughly with fresh tap water. Let the snorkel completely air dry.

      Place the cleaned snorkel inside a cool and dry airtight container to store it.
