Polaris XCR 120 Tips

The Polaris XCR 120 is a snowmobile designed to be operated by children. The 120 refers to the 120cc engine on the snowmobile, which is a four-stroke, single-cylinder with a carburetor. The Polaris 120 line was first manufactured for the 2000 model year. The latest version of the line is the 120 Assault, manufactured for the 2011 model year. This model is sometimes referred to as a "mini."
  1. Track Setup

    • Loosening the tracks on the 120 sled will allow for better performance, according to SporTech. Ensure that drivers do not slip on the cogs.

    Plastic Skis

    • The Polaris 120 comes equipped with plastic skis, which can add speed to the machine. SporTech and Recreational Motorsports report that testing shows plastic skis can add more than 1 mph to the machine.

    Adjust the Brake Band

    • A dragging brake can decrease the machine's horsepower and cause stopping problems. Recreational Motorsports suggests elevating the rear of the sled and running the engine for 30 seconds at full throttle. Turn off the engine, and if you feel heat on the clutch drum, the brake band should be re-adjusted.

    Cooking Oil

    • Several snowmobile recreation sites suggest spraying cooking oil on the drivers and track lugs to increase the machine's performance. The oil reduces drag on the sled's track.
