How to Install Handlebar Risers on a Snowmobile

Riding a snowmobile is a fun winter pastime. Most snowmobiles have handlebars that adjust comfortably. However, some snowmobile handles don't allow for a comfortable ride and need to be set higher. You can install handlebar risers on a snowmobile to get the comfortable ride you want. You can add three inches of height without a lot of retrofitting on your snowmobile.

  • Socket wrenches
  • Loctite or thread locking compound

      Sit on your snowmobile. Determine how high you would like the risers to raise your handlebar. If you occasionally ride standing up, determine how much height you need from that position.

      Take the bar padding off the handlebar. This exposes the cables and pivot adapter. Locate the eight bolts that hold the handlebar on the snowmobile. Remove them.

      Examine the brake, oil and throttle cables if you plan to add more than three inches to the handlebar. You can add more height, but you must also order longer cables. When you add more than three inches, the job becomes much bigger.

      Order a set of handlebar risers. Make sure you order the right make and model number for your snowmobile. Depending on your model, you may need to order a pivot adapter as well.

      Switch out the shorter cables if necessary. Change the pivot adapter if needed. Put Loctite on the bolts. Bolt the handlebar riser block in place.

      Bolt the handlebar loosely in place. Remember to use Loctite on these bolts as well. Stand or sit on the machine. Adjust the handlebar to your liking. Tighten the bolts. Be careful not to over-tighten them or your might strip the threads.

      Put the bar padding back in place. Bleed your brakes. Start your snowmobile and make sure everything is working properly.
