How to Use Snowshoe Bindings

Snowshoeing is an excellent winter activity that requires no special training or skills. Types of snowshoeing vary from mountaineering to racing to recreational. Snowshoes for each level of activity are designed differently, as are the bindings, which can use different hinges to either increase traction or create a more natural stride. Regardless of which type of hinge is in the binding, securing your boot to the snowshoe is similar with all bindings.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the straps at the front and back of the binding. Place the snowshoe so that the buckles are on the outside of your boot.

    • 2

Slide your boot into the binding so that the ball of your foot is right over the hinge.

    • 3

Tighten the crisscrossing straps over the top of your boot. They should be snug but should not dig into your foot.

    • 4

Tighten the back strap that goes around your heel.

    • 5

Lift your foot up and flex it to test whether the snowshoe is securely attached to your foot. Repeat the process with the other snowshoe.
