Design the track. Determine the area (length x width) in which the track will be enclosed. If only one or two riders will be riding the track at the same time, then the width of the track can be smaller. More riders need more space. One rider requires a width of at least 10 feet in which to safely ride; each additional rider should have another 5 feet. Research other tracks you have ridden. Determine what you liked best about those tracks and incorporate those designs in your track. The track should have several jumps that allow the rider to safely land. Do not include more jumps at the expense of rider safety. Maximize the amount of utilized space.

Clear out the the track area. Take out any trees, shrubs or obstacles that will impede a rider. Mark out a rough outline of the track on the ground using spray paint. Walk the track several times imagining you were riding it. Ask yourself if the track is safe and if there is enough room to land after jumps. Adjust the track design if necessary.

Rent a bulldozer. A small bulldozer with 4WD will help make the job go much faster. Although a track can be constructed using simply shovels, using the bulldozer to push or carry piles of dirt to the places where jumps are going to be is more efficient. Use the lift or head of the bulldozer to pat down the jumps and compact them into place. A track should have jumps of varying heights. Use shovels afterward to smooth out the jumps. Test the track and make adjustments based on the ride experience.
