Instructions

    • 1

Choose the right type of car for the dirt track racing you intend to do. For instance, you should make four-wheel drive a priority in your vehicle or else you will be at a distinct disadvantage in comparison to other cars. In addition, consider a reinforced suspension, proper tires, a roll cage, racing seat belts and at least one fire extinguisher.

    • 2

Decide on the type of dirt track racing in which you wish to participate. Longer rally-type races will require more supplies, maps, accommodations for using the restroom and possibly even a co-driver. Shorter, circuit-based races will require less preparation, but you may need to focus on further structural amenities to your vehicle, depending upon conditions.

    • 3

Find out which safety equipment will be required for the race. Helmets and eye protection will probably be required (for good reason), but you may have to wear a fireproof jumper as well.

    • 4

Inspect the track, if possible, so that you will be aware of all of its features. Take someone along with you to point out specific hazards or challenges that you may miss by yourself. Take special care to note any areas of the track that may cause your suspension to bottom out due to inadequate clearance underneath your vehicle.

    • 5

Drive around the track to see how your vehicle reacts and handles. Keep your vehicle at a reduced speed, so you will not accidentally damage it before the race even begins. At the same time, drive it fast enough that you will get a good idea of what your vehicle will feel like during the race.

    • 6

Participate in the race. Make sure you are adequately hydrated before and during the race, since the inside of the car can reach high temperatures.
