You will need to first get a good habit of an appropriate golf swing in order to master the irons. If you have the time or money, I would recommend buying one or two lessons and ask for help on your irons only. Forget about the driver for now, just concentrate on the irons. If not, you can read about it, but this is much more difficult. To master the swing, you need proper direction which can be attained from a golf pro at your local golf course for a decent price.

Once you master the swing and get a few good hits, you''ll need to be able to duplicate this each time, no matter which of the irons you are using. To do this, you will need to practice, practice and practice. Take time each day if possible to visit your local driving range, buy a bucket of balls and just practice over and over your golf irons. Start off with your 8 iron for a warm up and move around the spectrum, keeping your swing the same each time. You'll need to move the ball more towards your forward foot as you go lower in the iron number, and vice versa.

As you're getting familiar with your swing and starting to master your golf irons, take note of how far you can hit each numbered iron. Typically, the higher the number, the shorter the distance (but higher the loft). When you're on the course, you will use what you learn for your irons' distances to decide which iron to use.

While out on the course, it can be a lot different than being on the driving range. To master the transition, before each shot, imagine that you are on the driving range just practicing, and imagine what the ball will look like and the path of travel through the air after you hit it.
